My favourite room is the embroidery khana, where women in bright saris sit together on old textile floor mats, chatting as their hands move through the cloth.
Amongst them sits Nazneen-gentle, particular and very fond of her paisleys. This cushion is named after her, and after watching her work, I fell in love with that old-fashioned paisley boota all over again. The familiar form is drawn by hand and worked slowly in dabka zardozi and tiny mirrors.
Made for the drawing room, jasmine in your hair, Abida parveen playing, and your closest ones staying a little longer.
